DL380 G5 - Drive Accelerator ReadError ??

My G5 stopped functioning this morning, for some reason I had to press F1 or F2 to continue with the Drive Accerelator permenantly disabled.

Loaded up the server and run the array diagnostics that basically told me the same thing, though the 2 hard disks i have run the test normally with no problems...

How do I get the acceleration back on ?

And why did this happen ?? further diagnostics possible ?? I've attached the diagnostics file...

Please Help !

Re: DL380 G5 - Drive Accelerator ReadError ??

hi

1.
p400 has a cache module on it.
power off sever
remove cache
power on server until it post controller
power off server again
put cache module back

2. can you open Array diagnostics utility and check what you have there and if it lets you do a change in settings for example.

Re: DL380 G5 - Drive Accelerator ReadError ??

Hello again Karlo !

Seems you're my man around here :)

Done your steps but still have the same issue

ACU Setup tells me 'Error Detected' with a big stop sign...
An unrecoverable ECC error occured when trying to read data from the array accelerator's memory. Array accelerator operations are permenantly disabled.

for more info run the Array Diagnostics Utility

The utility gives me the same file that I already attached...

and no there are no options what so ever available :(

Any other options ??

I have another identical server, could I test using its controller or will that mess my hard disks up along with the RAID configurations ??

Re: DL380 G5 - Drive Accelerator ReadError ??

hi again

jejeje

when I have time here

try this another

1. Power down the server.
2. Remove all HDDs.
3. Power up server and wait until controller initialization on POST then power off server
4. Insert all HDDs back into the system which were removed and then power on server.

I saw yesterday in fact that error
"Error Detected' with a big stop sign..."

and it was fixed like procedure above

---------------------------

if not then you should check this
http://forums11.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do?threadId=1212223

fix was:
cache was replaced.

Re: DL380 G5 - Drive Accelerator ReadError ??

IT WORKED !!!!!

Thanks ALOT Karlo :)

You saved me alot of time and fuss from talking to tech support and waiting for a solution...

Any idea if this might happen again ? reasons for it happening ? or how I might prevent a future lock up like this ???

Re: DL380 G5 - Drive Accelerator ReadError ??

BTW. I found that the accelerator is set to 25% read and 75% write... changed that to 75% read and 25% write...

Does this affect performance or by any chance decrease possibility of the same failure that happened ?

Re: DL380 G5 - Drive Accelerator ReadError ??

hi Rami

glad to hear that - (and thanks for the points)
one of the recommendations is have the latest system rom and latest firmware for your controller.

and also this have been experienced when server was hard shutdown

yes you settings are OK 75 read - 25 write it is OK for performance

you know anything else we'll be around

Re: DL380 G5 - Drive Accelerator ReadError ??

hi

hard shutdown for example

- server shutdowns because of a power outage
- power supply fails
- power backplane fails
