DL380 G5. How do I add the disk to the logical drives?

Hi

I added one disk 1486G to a DL360 server with 2x1486G disk in RAID 1 (Smart Array P400 Controller in Slot 1). How do I add the disk to the logical drives?

Thanks!

Try this:

1- go in ACU
2- click the array you want to expand
3- click on expand array
4- select the available (brand new) disk
5- confirm

You should migrate to RAID 5, since the uneven number of disks.

There could be problems since the uneven number of disks and the RAID level...

With Smart Arrays controllers you can migrate RAID levels from 1 to 5, if you have a cache module with fully-charged battery.
Anyway i encountered problems before, adding disks to an uneven number to arrays with RAID 1 luns....

If you go through steps above without problems, then you can use Free space in the array to "extend" LUNs.

Keep in mind that some O.S. (eg. win 2003 and earlier) does not support System-Volume extension.

If I add one more disk, can I still run RAID 1. I'm running Windows server 2003 R2 Standard x64 Edition SP 2. Is it possible to expand the logical drive?

you should add 2 more disks and not 1 and you'll be able to continue running RAID 1.

On win 2003 is NOT possible to extend OS volume (unless using payment 3rd party utilities like "acronis disk director"), but you can use the unused space to create a new LUN and so assigning a new disk to the system.

You also need the battery and cache to extend most HP arrays. RAID 1 requires two drives to expand. RAID 1 becomes RAID 10.
