DL380 G5 Noise Problem

Hi,

Have a DL380 G5. 3GB RAM.
Running latest BIOS revision.
Every so often the fans kick into overdrive and generate a tremendous amount of noise, the type of noise ther server makes when it gets booted up. A reboot fixes it for a while. A diagnostic on the server shows no problems with fans.
We have two power supplies. There is a high pitched electrical whine form one of the power supplies when it is plugged in. The server only makes the high noise when this power supply is plugged in. The server does not make the extreme noise when that power supply is not used. Temperature internal and external are at normal levels. There is good circulation around the server.
Could there be a problem with the power supply?

Cheers,

John

Re: DL380 G5 Noise Problem

There's a high failure rate with the DL380 G5 power supplies, search for related cases on this forum.
Also, if you have another server, try the power supply there and check if it makes more noise than the others.

Hello John,

Though in your case, the servers are not in standby mode; I would say, They are working as designed.

Make sure you have the Latest PSP as they have Health Agents, which regulates fan speed.

Regards.
