DL380 G5 - Server 2003 Restarts

New DL380 G5. Installed Windows Server 2003 SP1. Server restarts when shutting down from within Windows. PSP/FW 7.7, 7.8 & 7.9 all tried - same result. Investigation now shows that we have at least five other DL380 G5s doing the same thing. Mix of dual core and quad core models.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Re: DL380 G5 - Server 2003 Restarts

Hello Neil,

I would think you have configured iLO; in the homepage, there is an option to disable "Automatic power on"; Try disabling that & see if that makes any difference;

Re: DL380 G5 - Server 2003 Restarts

We have been experiencing the same issue. Over the last 4 months that we have had this server, it has rebooted unexpectedly (no blue screen) about 6 times. We are running Server 2003 Ent. Nothing in the error logs ever.

Add this to the issue of the gimped gigabit NIC's (unable to copy files without errors) and the cache card not coming with the server (making for ATROCIOUS disk performance) makes this the worst ProLiant ever made. I've spent more of my time in the last month hunting down phantom issues only to find out that these are known issues with this model is very frustrating.

Any ideas to help would be wonderful. Production servers rebooting randomly is not good.

Re: DL380 G5 - Server 2003 Restarts

Sounds very similar to the problem I'm having!

We have a DL380 G5 running Windows 2003 SP2...shut the server down from Windows and it powers off then turns itself back on?

We have iLO configured and I have set all settings (iLO, System Management, ROM) to not auto power-on the server, but it makes no difference?

Re: DL380 G5 - Server 2003 Restarts

The issue of server powering on after a few seconds off seems to be due to a faulty multifunction NIC driver.

Re: DL380 G5 - Server 2003 Restarts

Do you have fibrechannel cards in the servers?
Check this advisory ;)
Hope this will help you.
If not - update the storage driver to the latest version. If it occurs on more servers it is definetely a driver problem...

Re: DL380 G5 - Server 2003 Restarts

Thank you VCESPON, I forgot to mention that answer here ! ;)

Version of HP NC-Series Multifunction Driver Used ?

If you have installed PSP 7.9 .. this would be
http://h18023.www1.hp.com/support/files/server/us/download/27389.html
This seems to have this issue of reboot.

Try the Latest version :
http://h18023.www1.hp.com/support/files/server/us/download/27965.html
& if this Doesnt work,
try the one came with PSP 7.8, that is:
