DL380 G6 Broadcomm NIC - Device eth0 does not seem to be present

I am receiving the following error on 3 out of 4 NICs on a DL380 G6.

Device eth0 does not seem to be present, delaying initialization.
[FAILED]
Device eth1 does not seem to be present, delaying initialization.
[FAILED]
Bringing up interface eth2: [ OK ]
Device eth3 does not seem to be present, delaying initialization.
[FAILED]

I also see the following error in syslog:

bnx2 0000:02:00.1: Firmware not running, aborting.

Anyone know if that error is related and if it would prevent a NIC from coming up?

Thanks,

Mike

What firmware version installed on server?
- check PCI IRQ Settings for NIC in RBSU. Possibly NIC 0,1,3 is disabled;
- Update firmware for server and NIC with Firmware update CD or online to latest recommended.

Re: DL380 G6 Broadcomm NIC - Device eth0 does not seem to be present

We've been having the "firmware not running" problem on a DL360 G6 with an HP NC382i Broadcom Ethernet Adapter. Problem continued even after installing the most current bnx2 driver. We even replaced SLES 11 with Windows 2008 R2 and still couldn't see the dual ported adapter. We finally powered down the server and moved the system disks to a different DL360 G6... booted it up... and see the adapter JUST FINE. Conclusion: this is a hardware problem. The NC382i is imbedded into the motherboard so the whole server is going back to HP for repair or burial... depending on their mood.

I replied earlier that we resolved this problem by having the system board replaced. HP chose to remove that reply.

Yep. Looks like we'll be replacing the system board too. I did not know that HP is in the practice of deleting entries from these discussions. Hey. Hardware is hardware. The stuff breaks. No big deal.
