DL380 G6 No Video on Power On

Hi - I got my DL380 G6 server today, I plugged in the two power suppy cable, plugged in VGA cable to my monitor which has DVI and VGA.

I plugged in keyboard/mouse both USB.

I booted, the power light is green along with the one on top of it, hear the fans roar, but no video.

Once I power on the PROC1 and PROC2 light turns orange in like 3 seconds.

I tried another VGA cable no video. The monitor works fine because I've used the DVI port on it, I can't tell what the problem is.

I removed all RAM and just used two sticks, one for each processor, still same problem.

I don't hear any beeping sounds or such.

I removed the cache card as well but still same problem.

Any thoughts? Would greatly appreciate the help.

Re: DL380 G6 No Video on Power On

I am going to post the solution that worked for me

If you have physical access to the server, you can try this sequence:

  • Remove the power supply units and swap them.

Test to see if the system will boot...

If that doesn't work:

  • Remove all power supplies from the chassis
  • Locate the System Maintenance Switch on the motherboard - It's a set of 10 DIP switches.
  • Turn switch #6 switch on.
  • Insert all power supply units.
  • Power on the server and allow it to idle for 3 minutes.
  • Power the server off.
  • Remove all power supplies.
  • Return DIP switch #6 to off (original) position.
  • Reinsert the power supplies.
  • Power the server on.

Test to see if the system will boot...

If that doesn't work:

  • Remove all power supplies from the chassis
  • Turn DIP switches #1, 5 and 6 switch on.
  • Insert all power supply units.
  • Power on the server and allow it to idle for 3 minutes.
  • Power the server off.
  • Remove all power supplies.
  • Return DIP switches #1, 5 and 6 to off (original) position.
  • Reinsert the power supplies.
  • Power the server on.

Test to see if the system will boot...

Re: DL380 G6 No Video on Power On

we had the same problem on a DL380G7 ( both proc led light amber ). We tried the steps like suggested (dip switch etc.), no success.

In our case the 3v lithium battery was defect, ~ 1,7 V. Try pulling out the battery, start the server with

no battery, go into CMOS. We did this 2 times, then put in new battery, everything was working fine.

You can't find this in any HP documentation.
