DL380 G6 and SBS 2008

No matter which way I try to install SBS2008 on this machine, it always hangs @ Completing Installation...
I have tried via the SmartStart v8.25 and v8.3. I have also tried just to boot with the DVD and use PSP later.

Has anyone seen this? Any suggestions?

Re: DL380 G6 and SBS 2008

Not going to be able to add much as a solution... but I have spent a day going through the same issue on a ML350 G6.

Need to complete this install by Monday AM and its now Friday PM... Customer will not be happy.

Re: DL380 G6 and SBS 2008

ok guys use is cd hP oem or microsoft version..
now make sure youdo not have mor thabn 2 sticks ram in and not more than 4 gigs at this moment

remove optional pci card and option disk expansion cage if any

now see what happens are these local installs or via ilo or rdp, or sif setupinstalls , pxeetc

please clarify and use my instructions for a local install.

enjoy and feedback the i will guide you what to do when install is completed ;)

Re: DL380 G6 and SBS 2008

you should download smart start 8.3 ,8.25 will do nothing but give you head bangs,,

Re: DL380 G6 and SBS 2008

Using 8.3

Using Microsoft's Actual DVD

If you let it sit, it takes approximately 4-5 hours then reboots and continues

Re: DL380 G6 and SBS 2008

yes..it got stuck in the Microsoft part of the install. It happens using smartstart or not

its got to be a hardware driver issue or something

Re: DL380 G6 and SBS 2008

Made some progress... actually before I read the comments in this thread, but I think I can help confirm the solution.

I removed the sas hba for the tape drive and I removed the network cable. I believe I had tried it initially without network cable but can't be 100%.

I did a manual install with just the HP branded SBS 2008 DVD. This time it went through.

Therefore I think its tied to the sas hba. (It is a genuine HP item for attaching the Ultrium drive).

I am away and hope to complete the install in time for Monday morning.

Thanks guys.

Re: DL380 G6 and SBS 2008

Extra info...

Its a local install and I have 6GB of RAM in this box.

(And it does now go through with the above config.)

Re: DL380 G6 and SBS 2008

I also had a SAS adapter card in the machine for the external tape drive.

Seems that might be the problem then?!?!?

Can anyone from HP confirm or deny?

Re: DL380 G6 and SBS 2008

clay and other guys

all initial installs are should be done with min config,

reason if you have glitches they are far easier to sort out and find the culprit
with a min config

I have been called to hundreds of boxes if not thousands where extras were added , usually extra ram was incompatible even though vendors sent them out,,or in wrong banks , cards incompatible, or in wrong slots, second cpu diff speed stepping etc..

wrong controller set up as primary in bios etc..

do yourself a favour update firmwares then proceed with os install then add extras 1 at a time ..

Re: DL380 G6 and SBS 2008

I am experiencing the same issue with an ML350 G6 and SBS2008(/SmartStart) fresh install.

Windows install hangs nearly at the end of "Completing installation" and server fans top at 100% (without any reason).

At first I suspected a faulty cd/dvd player (have had similar issues with faulty cd players at cause) but tests with external players turned out negative.
