DL380 G6 memory upgrade
Hi all.
I'm about to upgrade memory on a bunch of DL380 G6's nearing end of life.
I'd like to go for fast 16 GB memory modules, and be able to reuse them later in other servers.
However, both quickspecs and the DDR3 Memory Configuration Tool tell me that these servers only support dog slow PC3-8500 16 GB modules.
Can I still make use of faster (and unsupported) DDR3 modules, such as HP PC3-12800R 16 GB modules (672631-B21) or will it just crash and burn ?
NB: I know pretty well that PC3-12800 modules won't be able to run at full speed on these servers (Xeon E5504 inside). Again, the goal is to be able to reuse them later.

Re: DL380 G6 memory upgrade
Let's forget about long-term investments.
8GB sticks were not that expensive anyway, much less than the 16GB ones, and still a tad faster.
