DL380 G7 Memory Installation
Hey,
Can someone please let me know if the following configuration should be possible? Mixing dual and quad rank DIMMs, 16's are quad. I know each channel is limited to 2 quad rank DIMMs.
Proc1
16 / 8 / 8 <> 8 /8 /8 <> 8 / 8 / 8
Proc2
16 / 8 / 8 <> 8 /8 /8 <> 8 / 8 / 8
I'm thinking it is not possible as the server doesn't boot :) Is there any way I can turn this around to maximise the amount of RAM the server has?
Thanks for any help.

Re: DL380 G7 Memory Installation
"If any Quad rank DIMMs are installed, all channels are limited to only 2 DIMMs per channel."
And that's *all* channels are limited. You can't just install the 2 quad-ranks in one of the channels and then put 3 DIMMs in all the others.... wouldn't work. That's a bummer.
Now you get to decide if you'd rather upgrade more DIMMs to 16GB modules, or swap out those 16GB modules for a pair of 8s and live with less memory overall.
