DL380 G7 SAS HD LED Brightness Weirdness
I'm running a ProLiant DL380 G7. All is well. No warning or failure lights. All 8 drive bays are occupied and all disks are operating fine.
However, the green (and blue) LEDs on the drive in bay 7 is not as bright at the LEDs on all the other disks. I moved the disk in bay 7 to another bay and got normal brightness. I put a different drive in bay 7 and got reduced brightness. So it's not the disks which are the issue, it's the bay itself. Or whatever the electonics are inside the bay which supply power to the drive's LEDs.
My question is, does this reduced LED brightness mean anything sinister? Is it a sign that something is failing? Is there something I can check or do about it? Anyone seen this situation before?
Thanks in advance for any useful feedback.

Re: DL380 G7 SAS HD LED Brightness Weirdness
Hi,
Some things you can try:
1. Run ADU and check the report.
2. Update the RAID Controller firmware.
3. Switch OFF the server and reconnect all the storage cables.
Here in this case the issue could be with Firmware or hard drive backplane.
Thank You!
I am a HP employee.

Re: DL380 G7 SAS HD LED Brightness Weirdness
Up to G7 the LEDs are on the backplane. There is a light pipe from to backplane to the front of the disk. Maybe the pipe does not hit the LED exactly, there is some dust or the pipe got blind somehow.
No need to worry.
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

> Maybe the pipe does not hit the LED exactly
That would have been my first guess.
