DL380 Gen 10 - 12G SAS expander card

Hi,

We need to move the 12G SAS expander card from slot 1 to slot 3 of the primary PCIe riser expansion card because we need to install a full size PCIe card into slot 1. Will this cause a problem since we are using a type-p Smart Array controller (P408i-a SR)

Thanks

Ruben

Should not be a problem, since the expander gets only power from the slot (more or less).

Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Re: DL380 Gen 10 - 12G SAS expander card

Thanks Torsten,

I asked because I found this in the DL380 Gen 10 User Guide:

IMPORTANT: The 12G SAS expander card requires a controller. The server supports embedded,
type-a, and type-p Smart Array controllers. If using a type-p Smart Array controller, then install the
     controller in slot 1.

I have moved the  expander card to slot 3 and installed my PCIe  card in slot 1 and the Smart Array utility appears to see all the drives. I have not yet tried to load MS WS 2019.

I guess they recommend slot 1 for better cable routing.

Hope this helps!
