DL380 Proliant Support Pack for power management on Linux

hello all,

I have a Compaq DL380(R01)(SmartStart/Mgnt CD ver.5.1) and want to install Fedora Core 3.

I want to install a PSP to enable me to run the power management drivers, as it sounds like a chinook without them.
(well actually no where near as nice).
I'm assuming that there is software within the PSP to do some sort of power management, as I remember hearing this box boot with all the fans running to the max, then just switches into a quiet mode once the OS had finished booting up. ..but it was that long ago, I can't remember if it was MS or linux running.

I have a PSP for RH8.0 but am not sure whether this is ok to run on FC3.

I don't know whether to install RH8.0 and the PSP and then try to _upgrade_ to FC3 (is this possible?), or just to install FC3 and then the PSP that is meant for RH8.0??

I've seen a thread where it's a how-to _upgrade_ a RH9 box to FC1 using up2date, but again, no idea if RH8.0 to FC3 is possible, or maybe too big a jump??

I've also found Autoupdate <> , which is a script that works similar to up2date but not Redhat specific and lo_Oks promising.

If anyone has any advice, I'd really appreciate your help!

Thanks and Regards,
Riz.

You can try installing FC3 and then the PSP that is meant for RH8.0. The fans will switch to quite mode when the "hpasm" (hp advanced server management)service starts running which gets installed along with the PSP.

I'll have a look at the drivers for RHEL3 or maybe even 4! ahh the indecision.

opted for rhel3 hpasm only, rather than the psp.
