DL380 RAID 5 question
Hi,
I have a Hp DL380 which we are planning for multi use.
I have 2 72Gb hard drives for RAID 1 (o/s).
Then I have 6 146GB hard drives for which we plan to use RAID 5.
That will host a virtual machine on the server (running sql server), file shares.
Should I use 5 drives for RAID 5 and keep one as a spare or can I go ahead and use 6 drives for RAID 5.
Thanks

Re: DL380 RAID 5 question
Using 5 drives for the raid 5 and 1 for hot standby would be best choice.
If you run short of space you still have the option to expand your array to all six drives, if the controller supports this feature.
