DL380 Windows 20003 RIS server and nc6120 stop 0x000000BB errors.
We are using a DL380 with Windows 2003 standard server and sp1 installed as a dedicated RIS server. The nic is a HP 7781 Gigabit nic. As client computers we are using the HP nc6120 notebook series with the BroadCom 57xx Gigabit nic.
I have added a Windows XP Pro (SP2) OS image using the wizard.
When I try to install the newly added image the client setup wizard tells me that there are no drivers available and that it cannot continue. So I added the Broadcom driver files b57win32.inf and the b57xp32.sys to the i386 directory of the newly added image. Stopped and started the BINLSVC service so that it can build the PNF file.
Then the trouble started, now every time I boot with RIS and select the Windows XP image I get a stop error 0x000000BB witch means there went something wrong while booting from the network.
I read about all the forum threads I could find and tried all possible solutions like editing the INF file for the broadcom driver using older and newer versions of the broadcom driver etc... None of them work!
The most frustrating part is that before we went into production with this RIS server we created a test environment using MS virtual PC 2004 SP1 with an identical configuration. Same settings, service packs etc... Also the broadcom drivers (inf, sys) where added to the i386 directory in their original state. In that environment it works flawlessly every time! (with the nc6120 notebook)
I have updated the DL380 HP 7781 Nic drivers to the latest ones available on the support section from HP. It did not help a thing...

What if there where no more problems to solve?

Re: DL380 Windows 20003 RIS server and nc6120 stop 0x000000BB errors.
Got it fixed...
For some reason it has something to do with the dhcp server timing or the way it responses, our domain is w2k and the ris server 2k3. The ris clients have to get their ip's from the w2k domain controller.
We tested the same situation and installed an additional dhcp server onto the ris server and the 0x000000BB errors are gone.
