DL380 & Raid Questions

I have a DL380 G1 that currently is setup for raid 5 with three drives.

I needed to remove 1 of the drives for another server so now I want to go back to raid 1, is this possible?

I am using the ACU 7.0.1.0

Thanks & Peace

Re: DL380 & Raid Questions

Rick:

I have not done this migration type before (usually go the other direction), but the ACU will let you play "What if" with your array so long as you do not click "Finish" or "Save" the configuration changes.

As you read the ACU Users Guide, you can select your array and then "Migrate a Logical Drive". Check to see if the option to change the RAID Level from 5 to 1 is even available.

Wouldn't it be an easier fix to purchase another drive than to risk data loss?
Enjoy!

yes I agree on what would be easier but I wanted to find out if it can work before I go and purchase a new drive so I can save some money

Re: DL380 & Raid Questions

Let me know if it will let you... I do not have a system here in that config to try that on and I would really like to know?

Re: DL380 & Raid Questions

OMG! The array dumped out?

Did it allow you to play "What if"?

I am sorry to make you talk about this, if you would please, but I would like to know more about what it did so this will let others know about the gotcha.

I am truely surprised.
Enjoy!

Re: DL380 & Raid Questions

it's not a big deal, this is a lab system so I lost a lot of info but at least it is not production!

The ACU would not allow me to revert without losing all data.

Thanks

Re: DL380 & Raid Questions

Oh.. you mean it would not give you the option to go from RAID 5 to RAID 1?

It did not "fail" the migration?
Enjoy!

Re: DL380 & Raid Questions

Yes John, my apologies for not being clearer, but yes it would not give me the option, I suspect that it was becasue I already had drive 3 pulled out and it saw it as failed, maybe if I get brave I will try it agion and update the thread!
