DL380 g3 Smart Array 5i "NEEDS RECOVERY"

In the Smart Array 5i GUI, it displays "status NEEDS RECOVERY".
==== Assigned Physical Drives ======
SCSI PORT 2,ID 0, COMPAQ 146.8GB OK
SCSI PORT 2,ID 1, COMPAQ 146.8GB REPLACEMENT
SCSI PORT 2,ID 2, COMPAQ 146.8GB OK
SCSI PORT 2,ID 3, COMPAQ 146.8GB OK

==== Assigned Spare Drives ======
SCSI PORT 2,ID 0, COMPAQ 146.8GB OK

Disk ID1 looks good, the LED on the disk is normal. Do i have to change the disk ID1?

Re: DL380 g3 Smart Array 5i "NEEDS RECOVERY"

That's a very good question.

I would:
Check the disks from the system management homepage (SMH).
And the Array Configuration Utility (ACU).
I prefer the SMH.
Upgrade FW. Smart Array and disk's
Upgrade Drivers and insight agents.

And do you agree that ID 0, is a spare disk?

When I replaced the ID1 with a new disk, the status was still 'REPLACEMENT'.
So i guess the slot 1 was gone bad.

Yes that is a posibility, there has been some issue with backplen in the past.

Mayby you should do a fw update, in this case.

Re: DL380 g3 Smart Array 5i "NEEDS RECOVERY"

Well, try to upgrade FW under hardware failure, that will be at high risk of losing data, Cause the data cant be backed up.
If the data can be moved out or backed up, i recommend to reconfigure RAID5 using other healthy slots.
