DL380G3 and HPASM strange behavior

I have the following setup
DL380G3
HPASM version 7.3.0c-67
Red Hat AS2.1

These are the strange behavior
1. Whenever I stop all the HPASM daemons, the server fans will run at full speed till I start HPASM again

2. Server reboots due to ASR time out, checked all the message and HPASM logs, no reason indicated for reboot

Does anyone run HPASM on DL380G3 systems without problems? If so which version are you using?

Re: DL380G3 and HPASM strange behavior

1. That's expected behavior. HPASM communicates with the Advanced Systems Management Controller to determine environment and to direct the fans.

2. Does this include the Integrated Management Log?

Re: DL380G3 and HPASM strange behavior

Hi David

For the ASR time out, I've checked using the hplog command (see below). There are 2 ASR timeout, the one at 02:53 will reboot the system. No applications are automatically started after reboot. But at 10:25 another ASR timeout occurs. From here I can conclude that the timeout is not caused by any user applications

Note that my system does not have redundant fans

Re: DL380G3 and HPASM strange behavior

Hi,

One thumbscrew is located on the I/O board near slot 6. The other thumbscrew is located on the DC converter near slot 7, as shown in Figure.

--------------
RESOLUTION/SOLUTION
To resolve this issue, the thumbscrews must be checked to ensure that they are tightened securely.

If the thumbscrews are loose, they must be tightened.

If the thumbscrews are already tight, or the fan LED still glows amber after tightening the thumbscrews and restarting the server

Re: DL380G3 and HPASM strange behavior

Hi Prashant
I have no issue with the missing fans, they are not installed in the first place

Re: DL380G3 and HPASM strange behavior

Hi,

Two thing.

Disable ASR( Not recomended by hp but helpfull in daignostics purpose)

if downtime avable then
run offline daignostics using smartstart cd

Re: DL380G3 and HPASM strange behavior

Although you don't have the redundant fans, do you have the fans in the correct spots (if memory serves, it's the middle 4 of the 6 spots).

Aside from environmentals, another function of ASR is a watchdog timer. If that heartbeat fails, it can cause an ASR reboot.

Re: DL380G3 and HPASM strange behavior

OK I will start the HPASM deamons but will
disable the ASR

Anyway, back to one of my questions..
