DL380G4 Parallel Printer

As the DL380G4 does not have a parallel port, what do people recommend I use to connect a parallel port dongle which is required for our Tally Accounting software ?

Look for a USB to Parallel Adapter. This will allow you to use your USB port and hook up to whatever parallel device you need to.

Dougal,

I don't know the Tally software but searching around I've found an article which states you can change the security from hard-lock(dongle) to soft-lock with Tally 7.2 (updateable from previous versions).

Have a look here.

If you must have a hardware parallel port then you could buy a PCI based add-on from any decent PC store. This will give you the hardware parallel port you need on the DL380G4 but will need a spare PCI slot.

I hope this helps.

Re: DL380G4 Parallel Printer

Thanks to all who replied. You have confirmed what I suspected - that our best option is to upgrade the Tally software to avoid the need for a dongle.

Given that the DL380G4 uses PCI-X slots, can I use a standard PCI Serial/Parallel card ?

Re: DL380G4 Parallel Printer

Dougal,

Both the standard "Non-Hotplug" and optional "Hotplug" versions of the PCI-X Riser cards for the DL380-G4 support "Universal" PCI cards (3.3 Volt).

You should be able to obtain a 3.3V Universal PCI parallel port card without too much difficulty. Here is an example.

I have attached the specs for both DL380-G4 PCI-X Risers to this reply.

I hope this helps.

Use a Universal PCI card in the PCI-X slot to provide a parallel port which will support the Tally dongle.
