Re: DL380G4 unable to see 6i controller or disks

DL380G4 unable to see 6i controller or disks

When booting the above server we are able to press F8 and go into the rom based acu and configure the logical drives. When booted into Smart Start 7.01 on the front screen it lists the 6i controller as the primary boot device (model number 64XX) however it does not list any logical drives. When you enter the ACU it does not detect the array controller.

We have:
1 - Upgraded the firmware on all disks.
2 - Upgraded system ROM to lastest version.

Chris:

Do you have a 6400 Array Controller installed with the 6i?
Enjoy!

Re: DL380G4 unable to see 6i controller or disks

No.. not by default.

Di you go into the RBSU and set the 6i to be your first boot controller, select your O/S and set the first boot device?

Re: DL380G4 unable to see 6i controller or disks

I have been to the RBSU and the first boot controller is the embedded 6i contoller, the second boot device is the embedded pci ide controller. There is no reference to the 6400 controller, is this not the version of the 6i controller? I have ste the OS but when going into smartstart it still does not detect the controller or disks.

Re: DL380G4 unable to see 6i controller or disks

When I bopot up with the Windows 2003 server cd it finds the logical drive and I can install it. However with SmartStart or Linux it will not find the controller or disks. Are there any Linux drivers anyware for the 6i controller???

Re: DL380G4 unable to see 6i controller or disks

Hi Chris,

you can get Linux drivers here
http://h18004.www1.hp.com/support/files/server/us/index.html

Also, are you using SmartStart 7.01 or 7.10? I think you may need 7.10 to recognise the 6i and its logical drivers properly. You can download SS 7.10 here:
http://h18000.www1.hp.com/products/servers/management/smartstart/index.html

Stephen

Re: DL380G4 unable to see 6i controller or disks

Thanks Stephen, I have downloaded SmartStart version 7.10 and booted up with it, this now detects the controllers and the disks.

We are trying to install SUSE Linux Enterprise version 8 however there is no reference to this on the driver pages. Are there any driver updates for the 6i controller for this verion of Linux?

Re: DL380G4 unable to see 6i controller or disks

Hi Chris,

there's a driver here:
http://h18004.www1.hp.com/support/files/server/us/download/21190.html

SUSE Enterprise 8 is also called United Linux 1.0 on the ProLiant pages.
I'm no Linux expert, but I do remember installing SLES8 on a 5300 controller (uses same driver as the 6i), and you needed to boot from the SLES8 Service Pack 1 CD so it could recognise the controller correctly. Then the Installation could proceed, and when it was finished , the latest ProLiant Support Pack was installed.

Stephen
