DL380G5 5060 CPU upgrade/change

Hi!
Does anybody know if it is possible to upgrade the CPU on a DL380G5 Xeon 5060 server? I'm considering swapping the current dual-core 5060 (LGA771 socket) CPU's to Quad core versions. I was not able to find any information about this on HP-web.

If I have understood correctly the hardware is equal in these early G5 servers as in the newer ones so technically there should not be any problems. The upgrade I'm considering is to change the current Xeon 5060's to E54x0's.

Hi,

Check the quickspec for DL380 G5 to see the processor options.

Re: DL380G5 5060 CPU upgrade/change

Hi!
Have read trough the quickspecs several times, the "problem" is that the 5060 version of DL380G5 is not listed in the quickspecs for some reason... If the quickspecs are to rely on I could basically put any Xeon 51xx, 52xx, 53xx or 54xx -series cpu in the system without any risk for problems.

hi

basically the point is
From factory for DL380 G5 there are 2 types of System Boards (SB)

the one that supports dual core processor and the other thats supports Quad-core processor

so if you right has dual cores and want to update to quad-cores you need to replace your SB too

a) System board with processor cage and battery, supporting Intel® Xeon⠢ 50xx and 51xx processors

spare number: 407749-001

b) System board with processor cage and battery, supporting Intel® Xeon⠢ 53xx
processors

spare number: 436526-001

---
also yes that server supports 2 50xx

3.00-GHz Intel® Xeon⠢ processor 5050
3.20-GHz Intel® Xeon⠢ processor 5060

Re: DL380G5 5060 CPU upgrade/change

Thanks for the reply, I guess I'll have to stay with the 5060 CPU's in this case. Does not make any sense to change the SB.
