DL380G5 PCI-X card to IDE

Hello All,

I need help. I Have DL380G5 server installed PCI-e conversion card inside. There are two PCI-X 133 MHz and one PCI-e slots. I need to connect there DVD-RAM with IDE. I have special reason to connect it there. I do have one adaptec PCI 1200A card, but it is only PCI and working on 66MHz. Already in one PCI-X is connected HBA for MSA20 which works on 133. I dont want to use this card because i will degrade the system. Is there any PCI-X to IDE card on the market? Or the existing PCI will not degrade the system?

Hi Peter,

I'm not sure if any PCI-X 133Mhz cards exist for IDE other than RAID cards. These might only support disks and not your DVD-RAM drive. I know you say that there is a special reason for placing the drive on the PCI bus. Would a USB to IDE adapter or an external box be too slow for your needs?

The reason is, that siemens is using one soft, which is quite old, and is used for medical archiving. We already tried to install there USB DVD, but the application cannot see it. I was told by guru of siemens, that the applic. can see only IDE or SCSI devices. There is no SCSI DVD-RAM on the market with caddy nowadays. So we have only this IDE DVD. Is there any other possibility how can i connect this drive? i was thinking by mounting the drive via ethernet, but what the application would say....

Hi Peter,

OK - If SCSI is supported then how about a SCSI to IDE adapter. This will allow you to attach the drive to a SCSI bus and it should appear OK to your software package.

You could then fit a PCI-X 64 bit/133Mhz SCSI HBA in the other slot. The DL380G5 supports the following single channel HBA.

I just noticed on the same web site that they have ATA133 IDE Host Adapter. It doesn't say if it's PCI or PCI-X but may be worth asking. Product code is CI-1560U133

I was thinking about this sollution. Because i needed it already, i have changed the server to ML370G4. It should work fine.
