DL380G6 - Position of Temp Sensor 29

Can anyone tell me where temperature sensor 29 is on a DL380 G6?

Thank you

Re: DL380G6 - Position of Temp Sensor 29

Greetings!

DL380 G6 server there is no sensor for I/O Board Zone number 13, 14, 15, 27, and 29, but HP Integrated Lights-Out 2 (iLO 2) and the System Management Homepage (SMH) System Information Temperature displays these temperature zones as normal with a zero degree Celsius

I am cheking for more information on this..

Renji V

Re: DL380G6 - Position of Temp Sensor 29

Renji,

I thank you for your reply.  However, the iLO2 on my server disagrees with you on most of those points.  It does show a temp for 13, 14, 15, and 29.

Here is a copy of the iLO2 report straight off of my server:

 Temp 1: Ambient Zone Ok 61F Caution: 106F; Critical:113F
Temp 2: CPU 1 Ok 104F Caution: 180F; Critical:181F
Temp 3: CPU 2 Ok 104F Caution: 180F; Critical:181F
Temp 4: Memory Zone Ok 77F Caution: 189F; Critical:198F
Temp 5: Memory Zone Ok 79F Caution: 189F; Critical:198F
Temp 6: Memory Zone Ok 79F Caution: 189F; Critical:198F
Temp 7: Memory Zone Ok 77F Caution: 189F; Critical:198F
Temp 8: Power Supply Zone Ok 86F Caution: 194F; Critical:203F
Temp 9: Power Supply Zone Ok 77F Caution: 149F; Critical:158F
Temp 10: I/O Board Zone Ok 88F Caution: 194F; Critical:203F
Temp 11: I/O Board Zone Ok 79F Caution: 158F; Critical:167F
Temp 12: I/O Board Zone Ok 86F Caution: 194F; Critical:203F
Temp 13: I/O Board Zone Ok 77F Caution: 158F; Critical:167F
Temp 14: I/O Board Zone Ok 77F Caution: 158F; Critical:167F
Temp 15: I/O Board Zone Ok 77F Caution: 158F; Critical:167F
Temp 16: I/O Board Zone n/a n/a Caution: 158F; Critical:167F
Temp 17: I/O Board Zone n/a n/a Caution: 158F; Critical:167F
Temp 18: I/O Board Zone n/a n/a Caution: 158F; Critical:167F
Temp 19: CPU Zone Ok 70F Caution: 158F; Critical:167F
Temp 20: CPU Zone Ok 75F Caution: 158F; Critical:167F
Temp 21: CPU Zone Ok 77F Caution: 176F; Critical:185F
Temp 22: CPU Zone Ok 75F Caution: 176F; Critical:185F
Temp 23: I/O Board Zone Ok 79F Caution: 171F; Critical:180F
Temp 24: Memory Zone Ok 75F Caution: 158F; Critical:167F
Temp 25: Memory Zone Ok 73F Caution: 158F; Critical:167F
Temp 26: Memory Zone Ok 75F Caution: 158F; Critical:167F
Temp 27: I/O Board Zone n/a n/a Caution: 158F; Critical:167F
Temp 28: I/O Board Zone n/a n/a Caution: 158F; Critical:167F
Temp 29: System Zone Ok 120F Caution: 140F; Critical:149F
Temp 30: I/O Board Zone Ok 115F Caution: 230F; Critical:239F

If there is in fact no temp sensor 29 and iLO2 is reporting a non 0c value for that sensor, will a patch or update be released?

Re: DL380G6 - Position of Temp Sensor 29

Also, sensor 29 is not listed as I/O Board zone, it is listed as "System Zone"

Thank you

Re: DL380G6 - Position of Temp Sensor 29

Greetings!

Yes you are correct. The iLO 2 System Information Temperature with P62 System ROM version 05/05/2011 will display this.

This is a reporting issue only and does not affect the operation or functionality of the system.

Below are few  customer advisories for this issue:

I hope you find this information helpful.

Re: DL380G6 - Position of Temp Sensor 29

Again, I thank you for your reply, but the information you are providing does not match the behavior I am seeing.

You say that there is no temp sensor for 13, 14, 15, and 29, and the advisories you sent say the same thing.  Additionally the advisories say that the temp will be reported as 0c or n/a.

However the behavior I observe does not match this.  My DL380G6 reports NON 0c values for 13,14,15, and 29.  i.e. those sensors report what appears to be real data.  In addition the value of sensor 29 fluxuates in an upward direction.  I have posted the temp values reported by iLO2 in this thread which demonstrates this.

This DOES cause issues with the system.  When sensor 29 fluxuates to a higher temperature, this causes iLO2 to ramp the speed of the system fans up in an attempt to reduce the reading on sensor 29.  If there is no sensor 29, then this is a bug in iL02 as iLO2 is trying to perform cooling on a component that does not exist.  If this sensor trully does not exist, then iLO2 will never be able to cool it, and the fans will continue to ramp up with no mechanism for them to reduce their speed.  This is going to cause premature wear on the system for no reason.

I have posted data directly from iLO2 early in the thread and can provide additional details or screen shots if requested.

Sensors 13, 14, 15 remain at a constant 25c.

However, sensor 29 started at 43c and over the last 4 days has climbed to 49c.  The server has essentially been idle for the duration of these 4 days.

If these sensors do not exist why does iLO2 report NON 0c values for them?

Thank you

Torsten.

Re: DL380G6 - Position of Temp Sensor 29

There were several problems with firmware/BIOS in the past. I would first update to BIOS 2013.07.02  and ILO 2.25 and check if this helps.

BIOS:

h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/swd/public/detail?sp4ts.oid=3884088&swItemId=MTX_9e620e12514142318ed0798627&swEnvOid=4064

Hope this helps!

Re: DL380G6 - Position of Temp Sensor 29

I thank you for your reply.  The server is on the latest versions for all firmware, drivers, software, etc...  It is already running  BIOS 2013.07.02 and iLo 2.25

Additionally, the HP advisories contradict each other.  Advisory c02070688 dated  2010-05-12 says those sensors are not in place and will report 0c for their temps.

However the other advisory sent to me, c03659941 dated 2013-02-04, plainly shows an iLO2 readout wherein sensors 13, 14, 15, and 29 are reporting non 0c values.

So the older advisory says they are not there and will report 0c.  The newer advisory does not talk about them specifically, but does in fact show sensor data for sensors 13, 14, 15, and 29.

Either there is NOT a sensor 29 in dl380g6 machines and iLO2 has a bug that causes it to report non 0c values -OR- there is a sensor 29.

If there is a sensor 29 can someone please tell me where it is and/or what it is measuring.   If there is not a sensor 29, is HP going to release a fixed version of ilo2 that addresses this?

Re: DL380G6 - Position of Temp Sensor 29

I'm seeing the same issue as well and i've upgraded all the firmware.  Mine typically sits between 49c-51c

Re: DL380G6 - Position of Temp Sensor 29

Sensor 29 is now up to 52c.   There has been no change in ambient air temp or load on the server.  I have installed the latest iLO2 firmware 2.27 as well (this made no change)

This sensor must obviously exist.  Any news on where it is located?
