DL380G7 P410i BBWC failure?


about 24h ago I installed a new BBWC into my used DL380G7. In the boot messages of the P410i controller it says that the write cache is enabled as soon as the battery is fully charged. So I was waiting patiently for this to come true. Just now, as the write cache is still not active I opend up the DL380 again to have a look at the battery and its status LEDs. This is what I see:

1 – Green, permanent
2 – Green, permanent
3 – Amber, permanent
4 – Off

According to the docs I found ( )  that means there's a short circuit accross the battery terminals.

Btw. this is what the ACU gives me:
Cache Disable Code:    Cache is temporarily disabled due to low battery voltage (0x0001)
Detailed Battery Status:   0x02 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00


So what is wrong with my BBWC? Is the battery a non-starter? Is it possible there's something wrong with the way I installed the BBWC? Do I have to unpower the server (I don't really like to do that) to make the Controller realize there's a fully charged battery available now?

It would be really nice if you cold give me a hand...

Yes, the BBWC came in a kit, so the memory board, the cable and the battery are all brand new...

Since the P410 and any accessories are no longer being made, any new items you purchased are probably new/old-stock. The batteries have a limited life and may actually no longer work even though they're "new".

The battery itself should have the date of manufacture printed on it which will give you an idea of how long it's been sitting around.

On several older servers I've worked on with a P400 or P410 controller, the battery packs have died and I knew any replacements I got were probably going to be old units, so I built my own. I bought a case that holds AAA or AA batteries, put in some rechargeable batteries, and soldered that in place of the original battery pack. It's been a while since I've dealt with one of those older servers, but if you look on this forum you should be able to find a previous post from me about it as well as some even older posts from other people, where I got the idea from originally.
