Hi
This "VMware vSphere 6 Standard" host's firmware is dated apx. 8/2017. Since I have the iLO license for it I wonder what is the most convient way to upgrade BIOS and other firmware. Planning to do that on next weekend remotely.
1. Can I update "everything" via iLO?
2. For possible update via iLO can I use SPP method which seems to be a great/easy way for updating
3. Do i need to arrange a physical USB stick installed to the server
4. What would be the basic steps for this?
I have allready the "P19473_001_spp-2019.09.0-SPP2019090.2019_0905.39.iso" file on USB stcik and had great succes with it when upgrading another DL380G9 server OnSite.
After the HP firmware is updated I'm planning to upgrade current ESXi 6.5.0 Build 6765664 to "VMware-ESXi-6.5.0-Update2-10719125-HPE-Gen9plus-650.U2.10.4.0.29-Apr2019.iso". Mayby I can do that too remotely..

Re: DL380G9 firmware update via iLO
1) ILO FW and BIOS only
Better boot from the USB stick to get the firmware updated
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: DL380G9 firmware update via iLO
Thanks Torsten
But becaude we have the iLO I can place the SPP USB stick to the server now and on the weekend boot the server remotely via iLO and do the whole SPP update remotely?
Furher more, can I also place the VMware update CD to the server now and update the VMware too remotely via iLO on weekend?
BTW, the ESXi boots from internal 32GB SD card.

SolutionYes, this works.
You may consider to adjust the boot order to boot the OS first, so you can manually boot the other devices.
If you have a fast connection, you can also boot the SPP from remote via ILO virtual media.
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.
