DL380p gen8 P420i hard drives not authenticated after firmware update
Hello,
I have three ProLIant DL380p Gen8 Servers equipped with one P420i Controller and an additional Smart Array P420 Controller. Since I updated to the most recent fimrware my 15k 146GB SAS drives are not authenticated anymore - the controller shows an error "the drive could not be authenticated as genuine".
All other drives (also one other 146GB model) are working correctly. I have a bunch of 600GB drives as well.
The error occurs only for my EH0146FBQDC drives (Drive firmware is HPD5) and started after updating the controllers from V7.02 to V8.0.
Now what can I do except downgrading the controller firmware or replacing the drives? Must be a firmware bug...

Re: DL380p gen8 P420i hard drives not authenticated after firmware update
Hello,
The problem occured since firmware 7.50
The 7.02B does not have any problem.
Use the 864794_001_spp-2016.04.0-SPP2016040.2016_0317.20.iso disc.
After the baseline, clic upper right to "Action", and "Advanced option's".
Choose "allow downgrades to older versions of already installed firmware components" (the last choice).
Then, force downgrade of SmartArray Firmware to 7.02(B).
Like saying "Torsten", having a bug in 7.02(B). The spare drives can become "predictive failed" after approx 400days

Reboot.
Tadam ! No more warning.

Re: DL380p gen8 P420i hard drives not authenticated after firmware update
As mentioned before the error didn't occur in 7.02(B), we know that. Anyways downgrading the firmware is not a real solution - we of course install firmware updates to fix known issues.
So I wonder if anyone from HPE support is reading this? Can we expect a fixed firmware release anytime soon?

Server is not in HP warranty - without valid support contract you don't get official support...

Re: DL380p gen8 P420i hard drives not authenticated after firmware update
Wow - my last post on this topic now is 4 month ago. There is a new release of the SPP (04/2017) but no update for smart array p420 or disk firmware. No word of a fix for this issue from hp - what's up with this?

Re: DL380p gen8 P420i hard drives not authenticated after firmware update
Yep I just upgraded our 360p Gen8 with v6 firmware on the P420i
Now is at v8.00 from the latest SPP, and giving those errors.
Trying to get it back down to 7.02!

Re: DL380p gen8 P420i hard drives not authenticated after firmware update
Hi,
I have same problem on my HP MP350p server with 8.00 firmaware. I found new firmaware version: 8.32(2 Nov 2017) for storage controler.
I haven't try it, but maybe would resolve this problem.
Has anybody tried it?
