DL380r G4 and loud fans.

This thread talks about the normal fan speed of DL380 server being loud.
http://forums1.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do?threadId=643218

I was wondering if the DL380r G4 are having the same issue with their "lower" fan speeds being so loud. We have done all the obvious things such as BIOS, health driver update etc..
Anyone else have the DL380r G4 with this problem?

Thanks
Alberto

Alberto:

The only bios available is the initial release 16-Aug 2004; so you will just need to install the Health Drivers (Full PSP) and it should spin them down:

Windows 2003:

Windows 2000:
http://h18000.www1.hp.com/support/files/server/us/download/19613.html

When you run the server from SmartStart, do the fans spin down quiet? If they do not, you may need to contact HP.
Enjoy!

Re: DL380r G4 and loud fans.

The 2-way DL380 G4 I have is a tiny bit quieter than the G3's. I tested near a few cubicles in my office. The users still complained about the fan whine. In my Linux environment, the fans default to low-speed (relatively-speaking) and do not spin down when the drivers load. The high-speed is awful and only seemed to come in play when the server was rebooted after a high CPU load (Linux kernel recompile, in this case).

Re: DL380r G4 and loud fans.

They have decided to accept the noise levels with these fans. There seems to be nothing that can resolve this problem. Thanks for all the input.

Re: DL380r G4 and loud fans.

Are you sure you can throttle the fans in the BIOS setup. I have the latest bios and I cant find anything of the sort in the advanced section..

I have the latest PSP, BIOS, Firmware, Win2k3 SP1, tried older bioses, firmwares, 2000 nothing makes a difference.
