DL385 - G1 + G2 - Raid Rebuild Cloning

Hey,

Is anyone familiar with the process of using a RAID1 rebuild process to clone servers?

Typically you will setup a server with a RAID1 mirror, you may then pull one of the drives and insert a fresh drive and the raid controller will rebuild. You can then insert the other half of the drive into a brand new server and repeat the process.

Now i have done this many times on other server hardware but most times it requires you to create a brand new logical drive and then force fail a drive and force the rebuild.

However the HP raid bios is fairly basic and this sort of control does not seem to be there. If for some reason the HP bios does not see a broken RAID how can you force it to create a new logical drive and NOT initialise the pair, so you can then force break and force rebuild?

Thanks
James

Split mirrored array and re-mirror array are supported when running in the offline Smart Start CD environment with an array controller with firmware that supports these features.

As it stated depend on the controller and firmware, however taking server down pull one hard drive and add new after recovery accepted is automated process
