DL385 G2 Memory Issues

Have a DL386 G2 with 2 proc. When populating DIMMS 5-8 with memory server will not post and the front panel indicators show errors for DIMM slots for 5-8(amber light). All sticks test good. Also receive 1 long beep 1 short beep. All sticks are HP branded and work fine in DIMM slots 1-4.

Re: DL385 G2 Memory Issues

Are they all the same size?
Do you have any interleaving configured?

Re: DL385 G2 Memory Issues

All are 2GB PC-5300 sticks matched pairs. They have all tested good and were pulled from a working DL385 G2 were they all worked totaling 16GB in that system.

Re: DL385 G2 Memory Issues

With some AMD CPUs the CPU has the memory controller, unsure if this is the case with the DL385 g2 though..

But maybe there is something wrong with the CPU or the board..

Checked firmware?

Re: DL385 G2 Memory Issues

We have several DL385 G2's with memory issues. I've replaced every component except mainboards in these and still have random and intermittent memory errors popping up. We are now replacing them with reconditioned G5, G5p's or G6 in which we can make use of all the RAM-modules from the G2's.

I guess it is some memory controller failure as Johan said, might be processor dependent, dont know. They seem to work much better with less sticks in them, running with 16GB (4+4+4+4) had us hoping but we saw failures with these also. Could be running for months with 16GB before failure and almost daily failures with 32GB.
