DL385 G2 and SAN Boot

Hello,
I've tried to boot from SAN (EVA4000) a DL385 G2 with F1243 HBA (Qlogic) with RedHat3 Update5 but have encountered following problems:

- the installation of the O.S. on EVA LUN was ok, but when I gone to Proliant BIOS to setup F.C. HBA as primary boot device, haven't found this card in the bootable devices (the bios listed in the "Standard boot order - IPL" only cd-rom,floppy, usbkey, internal controller, NICs).

I've disable Internal SmartArray, moved F.C. HBA to first position, but the server tries to boot from inexistent drive C:

Does anyone has some info about this problem ?

thanks in advance
Davide

Re: DL385 G2 and SAN Boot

Hi,
I've done this setup (I've done this a lot of times with DL380 and FCA2214); in fact I have installed O.S. on a LUN, but I cannot bootstrap from this LUN.

FC1243 Dual Port HBA

Under Boot controller Order:
1) F.C. HBA
2) SmartArray
3) F.C. HBA (2nd port)
4) NICs
5) ..........
6) ..........

This list is done from my memory because I'm about 450 Km from the hardware.

Re: DL385 G2 and SAN Boot

Hi,
Selectable Boot Settings is enable.
I have:

- disabled SmartArray Ctrl
- Enabled FC HBA BIOS and configured Boot Settings.
- followed the HP Boot From SAN document

During the boot process, the server hangs with following message:

Attempting boot from CDROM
Attempting boot from Hard Drive C:

In the Proliant BIOS Standard Boot Order setup there are following devices:

1) CD-ROM
2) Floppy
3) USB KEY C:
4) Hard Drive C:
5,6) PCIe NICs
7) Integrated NIC

In Boot Controller Order there are:

1) FC HBA
2) PCI Embedded Integrated IDE Ctrl
3) FC HBA
4) SmartArray
5) SCSI U320 HBA

Where is the problem ?

thanks DAvide

Re: DL385 G2 and SAN Boot

Have tried to change 4th device with 7th in the Standard Boot Order setup, and the server tries to boot from NIC

Re: DL385 G2 and SAN Boot

Hi,
the solution is that HBA is not supported for Boot from SAN.
