DL385 G2 not seeing 4 hard disks
We have an HP DL385 G2 with an HP Smartarray P400 slot 1 and 8 hard drives (7 are in use). We did a server reboot yesterday and then 4 hard stopped working (partition not visible to ESXi and red LEDs on the drives). When we do F8 during boot to get into the RAID configuration we see that 4 disks are showing up as "missing" as if that "Port 1I" on the controller is bad. The server boots fine to ESXi loaded onto logical drive #1.
Please advise on how to recover my logical drive #2?
I reseated the 4 "missing" drives but that didn't help. Can I replace the P400 controller or something?
HP Smartarray P400 slot 1 and 8 hard drives
Logical Drive #1 Raid 1+0 33.9GB - OK
Port 2I, Box 1, Bay 2 - 36.4GB SAS Drive OK
Port 2I, Box 1, Bay 1 - 36.4GB SAS Drive OK
Logical Drive #2 Raid 5 683GB - FAILED
Port 1I, Box 1, Bay 8 - 0GB SAS Drive Missing
Port 1I, Box 1, Bay 7 - 0GB SAS Drive Missing
Port 1I, Box 1, Bay 6 - 0GB SAS Drive Missing
Port 1I, Box 1, Bay 5 - 0GB SAS Drive Missing
Port 2I, Box 1, Bay 4 - 146GB SAS Drive OK

Re: DL385 G2 not seeing 4 hard disks
Hi,
I guess the issue could be with storage cable or drive backplane.
Try reseating or swapping the cables that connects from controller to backplane.
If you have a spare P400 handy, you could swap that.
Thank You!

Re: DL385 G2 not seeing 4 hard disks
I swapped the raid cables and the same 4 disks showed up as "missing" so that proves the cables are good.
I reseated the P400 card, no joy.
I reseated all the disks, no joy.
I completely removed and reinstalled the hard disk backplane, no joy.
As luck would have it we discarded four DL385G2 servers last year and kept this one as a test box so I have no spare hardware.
How would I find the correct part number for the backplane and for the P400 so I can order a replacements?

We found a replacement P400 card and swapped it out, no joy.
