I was asked to install a scsi card in 2 dl385 g2
Both Servers would get to the point were it says loaded W2003.As the splash screen moves on both Servers say hardware malfunction call hardware support. So basically i am in a very bad position.
I taken the both system down to min config.
Know when of the Servers there is no video.
All lights are green no error led.
The other Server worked then i used parts to see what was wrong with the other still would
not show any post.So i put back the parts in the working Server know i get hardware malfunction. So i am stuffed both are down.
One of the Servers does power on so i am able
to run diags it is strange both have the same
error when i put in the PCI-E scsi.
Checked the IML logs on one of the Servers from
Smart start CD and it has a error of
UNKNOWN CODE3 CLASS20 any ideas would this could might be refering to
Mukesh

Re: DL385 G2 x 2
do you install HP branded and supported from the server adapters?
Just in case check :
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&objectID=c01243277&jumpid=reg_R1002_USEN
Not sure if I understood right, but one of the servers shows black screen now, whatever you do?

Re: DL385 G2 x 2
I installed the cards in slot3 when you boot
the server the cards were seen.
Both Servers would say hardware malfunction.
after the windows satrts to load
One Server has a blcak Screen know the other
one boots to windows then fails again with
hardware malfunction i have a P400i CNTRL.
i am wondering if the servers may have a faulty
M/B as i have swapped parts around from each
Server and nothing seems to resolve this.

Re: DL385 G2 x 2
about the black screen, you can try to use the maintenance switch on the systemboard(see the panel for the location). Set position 1,5,6 to on, or only 6 to on and try again - this will clear NVRAM and will switch to redundant ROM...If same problem you can call HP to replace the sysboard/riser cage...
About the other one, you can boot FW CD to update the firmware :
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&swItem=MTX-a3d64497af4d4cdeb699c2edd3&jumpid=reg_R1002_USEN
Other thread where this code is seen points to memory failure :
http://forums11.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do?threadId=980307
so you have 1 P400 with OS and you install second P400? Or you installed 2nd card?
Can you give the part number to check if it is supported from the server?
The issue can't occur on 2 server at the same time...something is not suported

Re: DL385 G2 x 2
Disable the "Legacy SERR for PCI Express" option in the RBSU by performing the following:
Press the F10 key during POST.
Select "Setup Utility."
Select "Advanced Options."
Select "Legacy SERR for PCI Express."
Select "Disabled."
Press the F10 key to save the configuration and exit.

Re: DL385 G2 x 2
Some good news and bad news.
I updated firmware on one the Servers which
was able to load windows but crash after the
W2003 logo appears it seem to have done the trick matbe i was just lucky on this one but
is back up and running.
The one with the black screen is dead i have
taken it down to min config and swapped parts from a identical server still no joy.
Tried the 1,5,6 switches made no difference.
So i have ordered M/B,Riser card and heatsinks so i should get this lot this afternoon so i will update.
