DL385 G7 with P410i Question

Folks,

A disk failure necessitated replacement of a 300GB 6G SAS 10K 2.5" drive (firmware revision HPD6). The tech installed another disk but it had firmware revision HPD4 on it. The other disk in the raidset also has HPD6.

The ACU indicates it is OK (not rebuilding). The lights are synchronously blinking green and steady blue. I am concerned about the mixed firmware revisions. I was expecting the blue lights to be out by now.

Could the blue lights be caused by the mixed firmware?

How long does it take to rebuild the raidset (Raid1). There is 70 GB used and 209 GB free on this volume and it has been about 2 hours.

How do I update the firmware and should I wait on the blue lights to go out before updating the firmware or will the blue lights go out only after I update the firmware?

Thanks,

Vint

Re: DL385 G7 with P410i Question

Correction: The blue light is illuminated only on the drive that was replaced (the one with the older firmware). Vint

Re: DL385 G7 with P410i Question

blue means the disk is selected in ACU.

If you exit ACU, is it still blue?

Regarding firmware:

HP's disks have always a product number. This specifies the specs, e.g. size and speed.

But 2 disks can have the same specs, same product# but they are different models with different firmware!

Check if the disks are the same model or not (e.g. DG0146BAHZP vs. DG0146BALVN).

Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Re: DL385 G7 with P410i Question

Duh-huh. I got a good laugh out of that! As soon as I exited the ACU the blue light went out.

Thank you very much.

Now I just gotta figure out how to upgrade the firmware to HPD6.

Thanks,

Re: DL385 G7 with P410i Question

The model number of the disk which was replaced is EG0300FBDBR.

Then model number of the replacement disk is MBF2300RC.

The remaining disk that was part of the original raidset is model number EG0300FBDBR.

Re: DL385 G7 with P410i Question

Is this the model number reported in ACU?

Hope this helps!

Re: DL385 G7 with P410i Question

No. ACU reports the same model number for both drives, EG0300FBDBR.

ACU also sees the different firmware revisions.

Do I have an issue or no?

Re: DL385 G7 with P410i Question

I checked the url and the HPD6 firmware is not applicable to the MBF2300RC. The HPD6 firmware applies  to models EG0300FBDBR, EG0450FBDBT and EG0600FBDBU.

So which am I to go by, the model number on the manufacturers label or the model number reported by ACU?

Do I have a concern with two disks in a raidset having different models and firmware revisions?

Seem to me this could have been prevented had HP taken the time to ensure the correct hardware was shipped!

Thanks,

Vint
