DL385 Processor option
Hi Guys,
I have an dl385 with single dc processor now, i would like to upgrade the system to dual proc. I found the processor option "2.2-GHz, dual-core AMD Opteron™ Model 275 *
393371-001"
Since this server is my home server, and im on a budget i figured out that the needed ppm and heatsink is available seperate also.
Is it possible to buy all the components seperate, because this is much cheaper then the official full option pack?
Im thinking of buying this then, "Processor heatsink, with thermal grease and alcohol pads
378910-001
and
PPM, 12 V, 81 A
383337-001
With an amd 275 processor.
The difference in price is about 500 euro's so its worth to try.
I would like to now for sure wherther this is possible before i buy the components.
greetings martijn

Re: DL385 Processor option
Hi Martijn.
Apart from voiding your warantee (typical!) it should work.
Assuming your server part number is 391112-b21 which is the model that came with that processor, you could also try the following part number 393831-b21 or the remarketted part 393831R-B21.

Re: DL385 Processor option
for a DL385 with opteron 265 (1.8 Ghz), is the two reference same (378910-001 and 383337-001) ?
I've HP ProLiant DL385 G1 with one opteron 265 cpu.
I want add a second CPU.
The HP kit (cpu+cooler) seem out of stock

Re: DL385 Processor option
see http://forums12.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do?threadId=1195337
the solution was :
- purchase HP Power processor module 383337-001
- purchase HP Processor heatsink, with thermal grease and alcohol pads
378910-001
- purchase an Opteron with the same speed than the first, but an OST2xxxxxxxx and not an OSA2xxxxxxxx - (see http://www.cpu-world.com/info/id/AMD-K8-identification.html#Opteron_OEM_processors for processor specification).
