DL385 iLO port won't work - Shared Nework Port works OK
Booted machine and tried to access iLO with SSH and browser without luck. Used x-over ethernet cable between iLO port and laptop.
After that booted the DL385 again, entered to iLO RBSU, switched "Shared Network Port" -mode on. Booted the machine again and switched the x-over cable from iLO port to Ethernet 1 and oh yes, iLO worked.
But we need the Web-access so we can't use this mode.
Any suggestions? Have we missed something?

Re: DL385 iLO port won't work - Shared Nework Port works OK
Here is how we tested this iLO port again:
- brand new HP Proliant DL 385
- no disks
- default BIOS
- default iLO BIOS (iLO RBSU)
- laptop with ethernet port
- configured static ip 10.0.0.1 and mask 255.255.255.0, no gw
- 1 ethernet cable (direct but laptop has autosense port so x-over cable is not needed)
test 1:
- cable between laptop and iLO port
- boot proliant
- F8 (--> iLO RBSU)
- Network -> DNS/DHCP
DHCP Enable = OFF
- Network -> NIC and TCP/IP
IP Address = 10.0.0.2
Subnet Mask = 255.255.255.0
- Save and Exit
- from the laptop
arp -a
( no MAC for 10.0.0.2 )
ping -n 9999 10.0.0.2
Request timed out.
Request timed out.
Request timed out.
etc...
We waited about 2 minutes...
Request timed out.
Request timed out.
Request timed out.
etc...
then we tried web browser, http://10.0.0.2/ and got answer "The page cannot be displayed"
test 2:
- cable between laptop and Proliant Ethernet 1 port
- boot proliant
- F8 (--> iLO RBSU)
- Network -> NIC and TCP/IP
Network Interface Adapter = Shared Network Port
- Save and Exit
- from the laptop
arp -a
( no MAC for 10.0.0.2 )
ping -n 9999 10.0.0.2
Reply from 10.0.0.2: bytes=32 time<1ms TTL=128
Reply from 10.0.0.2: bytes=32 time<1ms TTL=128
Reply from 10.0.0.2: bytes=32 time<1ms TTL=128
etc...
then we tried web browser, http://10.0.0.2/ and got answer
"Browser access to this system is not supported
by the current iLO configuration.
Integrated Lights-Out does not support browser
access on this platform using the Shared Network
Port.
To enable browser access, perform these steps:
Reconfigure iLO to use the iLO NIC."
etc...
test 3:
- cable between laptop and iLO port
- boot proliant
- F8 (--> iLO RBSU)
- Network -> NIC and TCP/IP
Network Interface Adapter = ON
- Save and Exit
- from the laptop
arp -a
( there was MAC for 10.0.0.2 )
arp -d 10.0.0.2
arp -a
( no MAC for 10.0.0.2 )
ping -n 9999 10.0.0.2
Request timed out.
Request timed out.
Request timed out.
etc...
We waited about 2 minutes...
Request timed out.
Request timed out.
Request timed out.
etc...
then we tried web browser, http://10.0.0.2/ and got answer "The page cannot be displayed"
NOTICE:
- we made similar tests with x-over ethernet cable ==> same results
- we tried also with gw 10.0.0.3 ==> same results
- we had red hat installed and tested other iLO RBSU settings with real networks ==> same results
- when the diskless Proliant tries to boot from Network with dhcp/bootp then the pings to Shared Network Port won't work which is ok
