DL385 shuts down unexpected

Since last summer we have a new fileserver combined with a Storage Work 60 and Windows 2008. Everything worked great until november. Since then we have had a problem with unexpected shutdwons of the server from time to time. It happens at different times and also different days, nearly every two weeks. Before the server shuts down unexpected I get several errors which does not make a real sense to me. I hope someone can help me.

Yesterday the first severe error happens at 8:43pm:
The Virtual Storage Filter Driver is disabled through the registry. It is inactive for all disk drives.

Afterwarsd I get several messages that services do not react in a certain time.

At 20:47 I got the following error:
Power-On-Self-Test (POST) errors occurred during the last system startup.

User Action
Check the Power-On-Self-Test (POST) errors, and take corrective action as needed.

This error appears about 6 times.

At 20:50 I get the error that the search service could not find the metabase-index.

At 20:59 the first error returns:
The Virtual Storage Filter Driver is disabled through the registry. It is inactive for all disk drives.

And then at 20:59 I get the message that windows has been shutdown unexpected at 20:55. However than the system works without problems until the next time.

I interprete that there must be a problem with the external storage. Can this be true, if yes what can be the problem. It should be noticed that at this time (21:00) normally the backup with Symantec Backup Exec should start.

The integrated management logs say that the log has at least one critical event, but the logs are not listed.

I hope someone can help me this would be really great.

Thank you,
Florian

Re: DL385 shuts down unexpected

Hello!
Has noone any idea how to deal with this problem? I did a mistake mit the healine, it is not a DL385, it is a DL380 G6. Im am sorry for that. However I have not found any solution until today. This week I had again the problem on Tuesday. The error messages are always the same. What can be the problem for that? Perhaps someone has an idea. Thank you,
Florian

Re: DL385 shuts down unexpected

Hi Florian,

we had the same problem with a couple of DL380G6. Its a known Issue of HP:

http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?objectID=c01955503

Hot Fix:

ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib2/software1/sc-windows-fw/p1122977956/v57918/cp012068.exe

Its really important that u shut down the server after using the hotfix and remove the power cables for min. 30 secs.

we didnt had any more unexpected reboots after this.

Re: DL385 shuts down unexpected

We have just one HDD with an OS only with this hotfix on desktop, and we use it always first on new dl380g6 servers after the firmware update.

hope this helps for u
