DL580 G1- Remove Heat sink from CPU
Problem middle screw is below the Retention screw (on heat sink)
FYI:
see Page 2-26 of Compaq Proliant DL580 Server
Maintenance and Service Guide
URL:
ftp://ftp.compaq.com/pub/supportinformation/techpubs/installation_guides/159213-003.pdf
- can NOT see a way to remove heat sink retention screw assembly,
- with out breaking/destroying same.
- screw is below the shaft of retention screw;
- [shaft runs the height/length of heat ink],
- and is non accessible without retention screw removal;
- [non accessible with traditional TORX screwdriver].
Want to remove heatsink from Slot 2 PIII 700/2m
and replace on slot 2 PIII 900/2m's.
Sure someone has resolved this problem.
- HP support has no solution & does NOT recommend remove/replace of heatsinks.
- HP recommends buying compete CPU/heatsink.
Your help is greatly appreciated !!

Re: DL580 G1- Remove Heat sink from CPU
Yes; except our remove is from 700.
Picture is an 900. Will be putting on to 900 after remove from 700.
But should be same approach or removal method.
Thank you for repling;

Re: DL580 G1- Remove Heat sink from CPU
4X Pii900. you are going to buy from intel and fix this old heat sink then boot up the bx.
Can you share the snap shot of other side procesr like bothside.
Because if you see the processor blank it tells how the heat sink will be attached to the processr.
I am not sure. But if you can share snaps for all sides of processor since i dont have with i can guess, or some else on forum can suggest something.

C.) Below heatsinks described as sent to

Problem:
--------
Will restate problem below:
Wish to remove of 4X heat sinks from PIII Xeon Slot 2

- Heat sink currently attached to Slot 2 Intel PIII Xeon 700/2M;
- creates a unit sub-assembly which may be remove / replaced.
- wish to remove heat sink from cpu.
- in order to attach to same heat sink Slot 2 Intel
PIII Xeon PIII 900/2M.
- difficulty arises in removal middle heat sink & cpu attach screw;
- are 5X attaching screws for slot 2 cpu & heat sink,
- 4 of 5 screws pose no difficulty.
- fifth screw is below the Retention screw (on heat sink),

SORRY wrong URL:
URL given is for Setup and Installation
Page 2-26 of Compaq Proliant DL580 Server
Maintenance and Service Guide simple shows
a image of heatsink & CPU.
Shows heatsink side.
Can NOT see problem have been tring to explain.
DO NOT have a camera to take shots for you.
See if can borrow camera.
