Solutionit is much better if you install W2003 - W2000 using SmartStart CD 7.9 or 7.8
http://h18023.www1.hp.com/support/files/server/us/download/27730.html
it includes all the drivers for your server and let us configure RAID level easily

Re: DL580 G2 Windows Installation Problem
check this is similar to your issue and that person discovered that removing processor was the issue (maybe faulty processor or slot in SB) so take the chance
what I mean this issues black screen are very weird
http://forums1.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do?threadId=1175019
also if you have any device attached to server remove it.
but you know that guy could install windows manually I really dont remember if w20003 includes the driver for 5i controller have you try without pressing F6 and installing straight

The Bios is password protected. How do I bypass that?
Thanks,

see page 115
use system System Maintenance Switch position number 6 - that will clear the NVRAM(reset CMOS to the default settings), so you should be abe to bypass the RBSU password protection. No data will be lost if you are afraid ot that

Re: DL580 G2 Windows Installation Problem
try this it helps with the password for the bios and why not the other issue
it is called clear NVRAM using system maintenance switch -SMW (see picture attached)
- power OFF server
- unplug power cable
- look SMW and the number 6
- put it in ON position
- Power ON server
- leave for 1 minute like that (that's is going to turn server to default settings)
- Power OFF server
- unplug cable
- put the switch 6 in OFF again
- power ON and enter to BIOS
by the way all must be in OFF position

Re: DL580 G2 Windows Installation Problem
Do you have some other non-hp hardware in the server?
And... you can try downloading the firmware CD and upgrading the firmware.
