DL580 G5 Internal Drive Perfomance
Scenario A) consists of the DL580 G5 with a P800 Smart Array Controller and 7 x 300GB 10K Disks (Raid 5)
Scenario B) consists of the DL580 G5 with a P800 Smart Array Controller, an extra drive bay, and 14 x 146GB 15K Diksks (Raid 5)
Also, if we go with Scenario B, do we need two P800 Smart Array Controllers or is one enough for 14 drives?
Thank you.

Re: DL580 G5 Internal Drive Perfomance
The P800 has 8 internal ports only so for scenario B) you need a second raid controller. Or you can use a SAS expander card but you would perfromance would be lower.
With a second controller, you would not be able to combine all 14 disks in one array.
The P800 has external connectors too and you would not be utilizing them so you should be considering alternaltives with internal connetors only such as the (cheaper?) P200 or the faster P410.

Re: DL580 G5 Internal Drive Perfomance
Raid 10 is faster than raid 5 but you will waste half of the space.
regarding option B, with an SAS expander board you do not need another controller and you can have a raid with 16 drives, if you need more details about it..like performance...check

regarding supported drivers, check the official HP doc.

That's the G5, there is no DL580 G6. Rumor has it that there will not be a G6 and G7 will be released soon.

Re: DL580 G5 Internal Drive Perfomance
regarding p410... that will help you with the performance, a p410 + SAS expander Board + raid 5+0........ nice!
