I have a new DL580 G5.The Server has also come
with a optional PCI-E P400/512BBWC upgrade option. So iw ould like to replace the onboard
withe PCI-E optional is this possible.
Can i install the PCI-E P400/512BBWC.Were does
the battery set as i cannot figure this out.
Also the cabing for the hard drives is currently connected to the SPI bard.Do i just
re route this back to the new PCI-E controller.
Happy New Year.
Thanks,
PJ.

Re: DL580 G5 PCI-E P400/512BBWC UPGRADE
This modes comes with HP Smart Array P400i, with the 512MB BBWC as an optional item.
If you order the high performance model (4 CPUs) it comes integrated from factory. If you order it separately then you also need:
Smart Array P400 Battery Attach Kit - 417836-B21
This option kit contains a 24" battery cable and adhesive material for installing a battery into the server if a Smart Array P400 is integrated outside of the factory.
BBWC cabling

Re: DL580 G5 PCI-E P400/512BBWC UPGRADE
I physically have PCI-E P400 controller card.
Are you saying i do not need this.
Also i have the option kit which you said.
Do i just install this to the base config of
Server. As both hard drive cables are Attched to the backplane i have the 2P model not the
high performance. The manual only shows 2 cables attached to the onboard controller
Also shows the PCI-E Controller attached to the addttional backplane.
So do i need to use the onbard which came with the Server.

Yes you can, just install the card in PCI-E slot
check this, page 46, for the location for BBWC
and also in page 78 you can see then cabling when there an PCI controller card, yes PCI - HDD backplane

Re: DL580 G5 PCI-E P400/512BBWC UPGRADE
Forgot to mention i am only using 8 drive bay.I have not instlled the addttional hard drive back plane.
So this is why i am asking if i need to route the SAS cables to the PCI-E CNTRL.
Or can i just use the option kit install the
512BBWC to existing card.

Solutionso if you want to use your PCI Card install it and reroute cables
on the other hand if you follow the procedures so you can replace the BBWC
link page 46
http://bizsupport.austin.hp.com/bc/docs/support/SupportManual/c01062660/c010626
60.pdf
basically as vcespon says if you already have a p400i controller in that
2P Base Models: HP Smart Array P400i/256MB Controller (optional 512MB BBWC upgrade)
I dont know if in the future you want to add more HDDs you will need both controllers...
