DL580 - running out of disk space
I have a Compaq DL580 that has three 18.2GB drives. Two are mirrored and the other is a spare. The drives have two partitions, C & E, which are 4.88GB and 12.03GB. Our E drive has 400MB of free space left and we need to increase it. The server is using the Compaq Integrated Smart Array Controller. We have an additional 18.2GB drive we can use. I need to know what would be the best way to proceed.

Re: DL580 - running out of disk space
Hi George,
You can expand the raid capacity online.
There are 2 options you can use: add the 4th disk and migrate from RAID1 to RAID5. This will give you 36GB Net. Capacity and you will keep the hotspare.
Or you can add the 4th disk and add the hotspare and migrate to RAID 1+0. This will also give you 36 GB capacity, but without the hotspare. RAID1+0 is a little faster at writing then RAID5.
Please have a look at these 2 files for more info:

Good luck!
