DL580G3 replacement

Hi,

We are looking for DL580G3 (4x 3.6 single core) replacement.

Currently we consider HP:

DL580G4 (3.4GHz DC, 16MB L3, 800FSB) vs
DL380G5 (3.0GHz DC, 1333FSB) vs
DL380G5 (2.66GHz QC, 1333FSB)

Our enviroment critical to single thread processing speed. (Few parallel processes and not large cache (2.5GB is enough))

In you opinion, how FSB speed is important. Should we go to more FSB (DL380), or otherwise choose more GHZ and L3 cache and have more processing reserves (4 slots)?

TIA,
KG

Re: DL580G3 replacement

Forgot to mention:

Server is dedicated to ms sqlserver 2000 32bit on MS Windows 2003.

Re: DL580G3 replacement

Your best bet is the DL580 G4 with four CPUs - more overall CPU power for SQL & more FSB bandwidth (4 buses in total vs. 2 in dual-CPU boxes).

It's generally in line with Intel recommendations - although quad-cores deliver a lot of power, still 4-socket dual-core configs deliver even more.

Regards.
