DL585 + W.S. 2003: slow video performance
I have a problem as in object.
I installed W.S. 2003 E.E. SP1 on a DL585 - 2 Opteron processors (2.6Ghz) and 4Gb ram - and I have very poor video performances. Pages appears very slowly, and at shutdown the video greyes very very slowly. The machine is in a test environment. I have 5 identical machines and everyone has this behaviour with W.S. 2003. The problem isn't present with Win 2000 server or advanced server. The video board is an ATI XL with 8 Mb ram.
I tried to use drivers from W.S. 2003, Compaq and ATI...but no solution.
Has anyone this problem ?
Thanks
Luke

Re: DL585 + W.S. 2003: slow video performance
There was a similar issue with the DL380-G4 when 20003 SP1 was installed. I believe it was resolved with a new system BIOS which includes an updated VIDEO BIOS for the embedded Rage XL chipset.
Try the latest BIOS for the DL585 which was released in September 2005, available from here.

Offline Romflash Update

I hope this helps.

Re: DL585 + W.S. 2003: slow video performance
It's the same if I use this one ?
http://h18023.www1.hp.com/support/files/server/us/download/23611.html
It's more simple at the moment to be phisically on server with a floppy.
If it's OK, i try this way and I'll post the new situation.
Thanks

Re: DL585 + W.S. 2003: slow video performance
Yes,
That is the same system BIOS kit if you prefer to install from floppy disk.
Good Luck.

Re: DL585 + W.S. 2003: slow video performance
If you look at the Device Manager, do you have a conflict between the video card and any other device?
This has been known on the DL585. HP do not provide the video driver for 2003, it's the microsoft one that is used.
Check and remove any conflicting hardware if you find a clash.

Re: DL585 + W.S. 2003: slow video performance
no I've also checked...no conflicts.
For this ATI RAGE XL PCI I tried MS drivers and ATI drivers...but the problem still exists...
Now I try also with the MS support.
If u have any other idea, u'll be welcome :-)
Thanks

Re: DL585 + W.S. 2003: slow video performance
I think u don't konow the HW I'm talking about.
The ATI RAGE XL -IS- the on board video controller.
I haven't tried to boot in VGA mode at this time and however is not the solution.
The system is HP\MS certified to run with W.S. 2003. I'm opening a case to both HW and SW producers.
Bye

Re: DL585 + W.S. 2003: slow video performance
Check the following HP Customer advisory which relates to the /3GB switch in BOOT.INI for Server 2003.
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?objectID=PSD_EM050302_CW01
If you have the /3GB switch in use try it without it and visa-versa to see if this is in any way causing your problem. I know you have SP1 installed but it may not have installed properly.
I hope this helps.
