DL740 cache module replacement

I was sent the documentation for a DL585 and it is just different enought that I was not able to find the it to re-seat or re-place it. So, Here is how it started. We are receiving an error

Cache Accel Parity Errors may require a module. (6046)
A cache accelerator parity error indicates a cache module needs to be replaced. The error information is reported in the variable cpqHeEventLogErrorDesc.

So, upon submitting this yesterday, we were asked to re-seat or replace the cache module. I cannot even find it on the DL740.

Hi Dee,

You may have an optional Smart Array controller installed and that has a cache module. Do you know what model of controller you are using? Can you run ADU and post the controller information?

Re: DL740 cache module replacement

Is there something on that report that will help me indicate if this was installed?

Re: DL740 cache module replacement

Hi Dee,

The 5i is embedded on the DL740 and therefore it's part of the I/O board. See Chapter 8 of the User's guide for more information.

Re: DL740 cache module replacement

Dee,

As it's embedded into the I/O board, that module will have to be replaced or bypass the 5i altogether and install an optional PCI SA RAID controller.

Points welcomed if the information I provided was helpful.

Re: DL740 cache module replacement

With it being a cache module, can we just remove it like shows in this video. I started out thinking this was some custom config we ordered with this DL740, and I am wondering what the base unit came with. If we remove this all together what performance hit are we going to take.

Re: DL740 cache module replacement

No, that is the "Array Enabler Module" which 'enables' the 5i and the PCI-x I/O module will have to be replaced. There's no cache board it's all embedded into the chip. See the diagram I attached.
