DL980 Power Supply

WHen I install DL980 with redundant power supply (with 8x power supplies), if I plug 4 PSU to one power source (UPS#1) and other 4 PSU to a different power source (UPS#2). If one power source fails, powering down 4 PSUs at the same time, the DL980 will remain up and operating ?
Is this how power redundancy works on DL980 ?

Re: DL980 Power Supply

Hi,

yes this is generally how a N+N power redundancy works. You have what is called grid redundancy if you cable up the power supplies to the way you explained above.

If you spread the top 4 and bottom 4 power supplies over the two AC lines, then you get N+1 redundancy, so this means that when one AC line goes away , that the remaining AC power line will feed the 4 remaining power supplies of which 2 are located in the top and 2 in the bottom power supply housing.

This N+1 makes no major difference, it is just how is is cabled to the system, so the system can run on 4 PSU's.
