DL980 not starting
My HP Proliant DL980 is no starting. After powering on, the server makes as if it is going to start and suddenly goes down again: It repeats this scenario 5 times and then goes completely down without any further attempt to start itself. TheControl pannel light indicator shows red light at the alternative AC power led.
Please help !
Thanks

Re: DL980 not starting
Calm down, please.
Find the Maintenance and Service Guide for DL980 G7 here.
The front panel LEDs are described on page 108. Looks like there is no "alternative AC power LED", and the only LED that can light up red (not amber) is the health LED. That's not a good thing.
Below the front panel LEDs there is a pop-out System Insight Display. Press it to pop it out, then pull if it does not come all the way out on its own. It should look like the picture on page 109. It contains a lot more LEDs: which one(s) of these are lit? Check the description of the lit LEDs on pages 109-110.

Re: DL980 not starting
Somethings to try:
Remove all connections except power from the server. Everything, all network and kvm.
Boot the server and hold in the power button for 10 seconds.
Your 980 should be under warrantee, call HP.

None of them is lit in the system insight display, except the HEALTH led that is flashing red.
What to do next, please ?

Re: DL980 not starting
I agree with Dave73: if the procedure he suggested has no effect, it's time to call HP.
The DL980 G7 model is so new that most or all units evers sold should still be under warranty. And if you have a support agreement, this is exactly the situation it's intended for.
If you have the iLO3 management interface configured, you could still use it to access the Integrated Management Log through iLO and maybe get some more information. If the IML contains anything that might be relevant, send a copy of the log to HP for analysis when you open the warranty/support call.
