Dead Drive

Current configuration is:

Logical Drive 1:
Drive 0 = 74GB
Drive 1 = 74GB (DEAD)
Drive 2 =74GB
Drive 3 = 146GB

Logical Drive 2:
Drive 4 = 146GB
Drive 5 = 146GB

My only two options are replacing the drive with either a 146GB or a 1TB.

Is it worth my while to replace the drive with a 1TB?

Re: Dead Drive

Are these SATA or SAS? I would say SATA. Are they in RAID or single JBOD configuraiton? Is it RAID 0? RAID 5? RAID 10?

Re: Dead Drive

Replace it with 146 GB, Higher the capacity of HDD size increases more failure with drives.

Also if 1 TB is SATA and these 146 & 74 are SAS then you can not use those drives with this array.

Re: Dead Drive

SAS drives, and a Raid 5 Configuration on the logical 1 drive.

Re: Dead Drive

@lucky, youre right, the 1tb is a sata drive.

Re: Dead Drive

RAID 5, I would do a 146GB spare and allow it to rebuild the array instead of attempting direct replacement unless you don't have room for a 7th drive.
