Degraded performance before "Array Accelerator Battery Charge Low" error

Hi

recently we had a HP ProLiant DL360 G5 that ran into a "POST Error: 1794-Drive Array - Array Accelerator Battery Charge Low".  Looking at performance stats before the error I can see that IO wait was peaking at 12% where as now its at 3% and can also see increased disk utilisation before the issue too.

Is there any explanation of why an issue with the battery charge leading up to the failure might have caused the increased load, disk util etc?

Thanks

Jason

Re: Degraded performance before "Array Accelerator Battery Charge Low" error

You posted to HP-UX forum, but you don't run HP-UX ...

However, if the battery is low or failed, the controller will disable the write cache, hence you have poor performance.

Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Re: Degraded performance before "Array Accelerator Battery Charge Low" error

Thanks Torsten, not sure how I missed placing this in HP-UX. Posted to linux too as the box is on CentOS.

I understand that the write cache will be disabled below a certain battery charge percentage (75%) but that doesn't completely explain the performance seen before the error.

It might sound far fetched but I was wondering if any decrease in charge near to, but still above the 75% could affect performance.
