Determine service hours on a hard drive

Does anyone know how to find out how many hours an HP SCSI hard drive has been in service?

Re: Determine service hours on a hard drive

There are counters on each harddisk, one of them is service minutes. It can be seen in an ADU report.
I can't check right now, try in ACU, show physical view, click on a drive, more information.

I may need to upgrade my ACU/ADU apps, I don't see these options available..

Re: Determine service hours on a hard drive

hi

yes you need to download Array diagnostic utility(ADU)
OK you need to know that ADU only works on smart array controllers why I say this because I don't know
which server and which controller your server has

so in the case you have controller supported by ADU you generate a ADU report:

look for

-> MONITOR AND PERFORMANCE DATA:

after for SCSI #, Drive ID # which correspond which every HDD you have in the server

-> SCSI Port 1, Drive ID 0

and after that for

-> Serv. Time

so you can see Factory or since last power

those are hexadecimal numbers
so use a calculator convert hexadecimal to decimal

decimal / 60 = min
(decima/60) / 24 = days

I'm going to add a picture from a ADU report that I had handy when i did this

so if HDDs have not been replaced all of them will have the same time if not continue looking for:

-> SCSI Port 1, Drive ID #

I hope this can help you
also if you don't know how to get ADU let us know

Re: Determine service hours on a hard drive

hi again

here is an example from the picture

hey see this
** Sorry in my previos math - ;-) - I did a mistake decimal minutes / 60 = hours

here it is

Serv. Time

Factory

002187b5

for example 002187b5 min (hexadecimal) -> 2197429 min (decimal)

36623,8167 hours

1525,992 days

Excellent explanation (with visual aid) Karlo - thanks!
