\Device\Harddisk1\DR1 is not ready for access yet

Hello,

I have inherited a Proliant 5500 quad PPro 200 server that has been getting this error message for a number of months now (in event log - EventID: 15, Source: Disk).

What exactly is \Device\Harddisk1\DR1? Can someone recommend specific diagnostics for this error?

Thanks very much for any help anyone can offer.

Re: \Device\Harddisk1\DR1 is not ready for access yet

hi,

from the limited information you have written in your post, there may be so many cause behind this event error. sometimes this error is not harmfull to your system, and it just logs if the disk takes more time for initialization then expected by the OS. If you are able to use all disks, it means this is the same case. you may try to upgrade the firmware on disks and SCSI /array controller, to rectify it. you should also update the drivers of the same for your OS.

hope the above will resolve your problem.

Re: \Device\Harddisk1\DR1 is not ready for access yet

Thanks for replies.

The controller in this system is Smart-2DH. The OS was upgraded from NT to W2K awhile back. Eventually the system needs to be rebuilt with a clean installation - I'd like to put W2003 Server on it.

For now, though, as soon as I can bring the system down, I'll upgrade the firmware on the controller as my first step.

Hi Cheryl,

Could you please execute the BIOS/FW upgrade for the following:
+Proliant System BIOS
+Array Controller FW
+Disks Firmware
+Proliant Support Pack on the system

Hope this helps and don't forget to assign points:)

Saket and Prashant,

Thanks for the advice. I will let you know if this clears up the errors as soon as I can get at the server and do it.

I will come back and assign points!

Re: \Device\Harddisk1\DR1 is not ready for access yet

Now that I'm looking for the 2DH firmware upgrade... I can't seem to find it very easily. I'm showing that I've got v.2.02 installed on the servers now (there are 4 of them).

I've also got a 5500 with Smart Array 4200 that's been showing disk errors for quite some time that I would like to upgrade.

I would like, eventually, and maybe sooner than later, to install W2003 Adv. Server on them. Can I use SmartStart 6.40 on these older servers and controllers?

on 5500 6.4 will not work. you have to use 5.50 or earlier then this version.

Thanks

Thank you, Rahul. Do you know if it will be possible to install Windows 2003? I'm thinking it shouldn't be a problem, but not sure with using earlier SmartStart.

Any ideas on where best to get latest Smart-2DH firmware?
