Diagnostics for WIndows SCSI led-test

Whenever I use the Diagnostics for Windows 4.16a - scsi led test, my server crashes

I thought this was purely a light-test. Or could it be that there's somehting wrong with my scsi backplane?

Re: Diagnostics for WIndows SCSI led-test

Problem more likely with HDD itself than SCSI backplane
Run ChkDsk; verify if you can use latest Diagnostics

Use smart Start or from F10 if Older server, use Floppy diskette

Re: Diagnostics for WIndows SCSI led-test

Here is my 2 cents.
I would tthink, from experence with our own drive testing, that you (the software) are attempting (and require) to access the disk directly. If the disks are connected to a RAID controller, the drives are "logical" and can not be accessly directly.
Of course you could have them connected to the onboard SCSI controller which makes mmy statement moot. If that is the case you should be able to test them.
We have to use the SCSI controller to test individual hard drives. We use the RAID controller to test RAID acceptance and function.

Re: Diagnostics for WIndows SCSI led-test

thank you. I've tested and retested about everything in the system and can't find anything wrong.

I started the diagnostics in the first place because my system was unstable. Frequent lockups...(usually once a day)

The ledtest seemed to bring the same lockup, but can actually be unrelated.

I've tested using the smartstart cd - offline diagnostics. No errors yet, I'll begin testing with the latest smartstartcd in a few minutes...yet don't have much hope of getting any closer to a solution with this.

BTW I can't seem to find a manual for the diagnostics test... Is this available somewhere?
